Yu Wenyi was a Qing official who served as Taiwan Prefect and directed the compilation of the Continued Revised Taiwan Prefecture Gazetteer, completed in 1764. This comprehensive administrative and geographical survey covered the full range of Taiwan's counties, indigenous communities, agricultural products, population registers, and customs. As one of the definitive official gazetteers of the Qianlong period, it synthesized earlier surveys and added fresh fieldwork observations, providing the Qing bureaucracy with the most thorough portrait of mid-Qing Taiwan society. His administrative career also encompassed efforts to improve agricultural productivity and clean up official corruption.
