Zhuang Datian was a Zhangzhou-origin settler who commanded the southern front of the Lin Shuangwen Rebellion, one of the largest uprisings in Qing-era Taiwan. When Lin Shuangwen launched his rebellion in central Taiwan in late 1786, Zhuang mobilized Tiandihui networks in the Fengshan area, captured the Fengshan county seat, and coordinated north-south pressure on the Qing administration. The court dispatched General Fu Kangan with a large expeditionary force in 1787; Zhuang Datian was cornered in the Hengchun peninsula and killed in 1788. The rebellion they co-led left a lasting mark on Qing Taiwan policy, prompting reforms in troop deployment and tighter regulation of secret societies.
